Seminole State College of Florida

Seminole State College of Florida is a public state college located in Sanford, Florida. Seminole State serves over 30,000 students, full-time and part-time, and is also one of the largest employers in Seminole County. The College is a member institution of the Florida College System.

Situated on more than 200 acres in the geographical center of Seminole County, Seminole State College's Stanford Campus opened in 1966, when the school was known as Seminole Junior College. Since 1965, the college has expanded into four campuses within Seminole County, Florida. Its main campus is located in Sanford, with satellite campuses located in Oviedo, Altamonte Springs and Heathrow.

The main campus offers a complete curriculum taught in small, intimate classroom settings, and is sure to meet even the most unique needs. The campus is home to dozens of degree and certificate programs as well as the Art and Phyllis Grindle Honors Institute, Fine Arts Theatre, Planetarium and Raider intercollegiate athletic programs.

It is also home to the University of Central Florida at Seminole State, which allows UCF students to select bachelor's degree programs on the Seminole State campus. The Fine Arts Gallery is the oldest gallery in Seminole County. The four main academic areas available at the Sanford Campus include:

4. Adult Education

Seminole State University offers prerequisite courses for more than 75 university majors to help students seamlessly transition into a related bachelor's degree program at a four-year college or university, which include: Business, Education, General Studies, Music, Humanities, and Engineering.

The University offers dozens of Associate in Science degree options, in fields such as Automotive Service Technology, Criminal Justice, Office Management Technology, Legal Assistant, Early Childhood Education, Information Systems Technology, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and Physical Therapist Assistant, and Accounting.

The college Credit Certificate programs prepare students for entry-level employment, and to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently in the work force. These certificate programs include: Computer Programming, Human Resources, Emergency Medical Technology, and Early Childhood Education.

The campus features more than 840,000 square feet of well-equipped learning facilities to empower students as they earn their degree. Seminole State offers over 40 clubs and organizations including the Environmental Club, The Hispanic Students Association and the African American Cultural Forum. The university also sponsors a student run Government Association that is the voice of the students.

It also offers a healthy dose fine arts activities, with an art gallery on campus that showcases work by the students and a dramatic theatre that is open to the public. Seminole State competes in National Junior College Athletic Association Region VIII in baseball, softball and women's golf. The Seminole State's student-athletes excel in and outside the classroom, and scholarships, including tuition and books, are available.

Seminole State's study abroad program offers students the chance to travel to locations around the globe and earn credit while having fun. The study abroad program allows students to gain a global perspective; travel with fellow students and facility; learn about different cultures and gain new experiences; and choose from a variety of destinations.
